My real life hero: My cousin Bikramjit Ray
My cousin Bikramjit Ray is food obsessed. Actually that is an understatement. He is my food hero and one of the first of my family members to make this list. I am lucky - my family has some very awesome members - not just among my ancestors but among my cousins, uncles, aunts that have done some extraordinary things as if they were ordinary. I admire them all. Bikramjit or Tanu as we all fondly call him in the family is a magical and happy person. Always has been. He has been obsessed with food almost all his life. I remember him as a 8 year old (could have been younger) driving my grandmother's cook (we called him Baburchi bhai) nuts with questions about what goes into the different dishes he made. And he was a formidable cook. When you asked Tanu, what he wanted to be when he grew up - cook was his unhesitating response. He cooks, but he prefers to sample everyone and anyone's cooking. Spending time with him is a food adventure.
I had a chat with him on Google's Hangout - you can check out the video on YouTube - or click below. I can't believe he talked about pancakes in iHop!
He plans to launch food tours in India but in his case he wants to take his tourists to people's houses to taste authentic Indian (if there is still such a thing) food made traditionally at home.
You can connect with him on:
He loves people as much as he loves his food. Check him out.
