Yesterday was my last full day in Sweden. I am writing this post on a Swebus on the way to Arlanda to catch my flight to Amsterdam. How cool is that. It is to me at least. We started off in our leisurely fashion yesterday with a trip to Galleri Astley and a slow meander through some very nice sculptures, paintings, pottery and prints. It was the start of a day of random visits and places. From there we had lunch at a small town Fagersta where we had 'Swedish' Pizza and Kebabs (nothing like the kebabs you get anywhere in the world). As always the portion sizes are enormous so we took doggie bags for dinner.
We meandered through the countryside and dropped into Magnus' parents' summer home. It is the most beautiful surroundings - quite remote and surrounded by natural forest and wild flowers, trees. It had a compact house that used the space so well with a small flower garden with rose bushes. There was a shed for his father to potter around in and make his wooden spoons and a small herb garden for her to potter in. It is my kind of place. The only thing I would miss is the Internet - signals aren't brilliant there but I am sure there would be a solution in a tech-savvy country like Sweden.
From there we meandered towards a small farm that had home made cheese and jams (more like relishes than jams) and we stopped for the traditional fika.
Got a bit lost getting back on the road home but what a beautiful area to get lost. Spent a chilled evening just talking, watching some TV. We did inaugurate the use of the crockpot I carried for the Nystedts from Dubai with a quiche-like slow cook egg and potato and bacon breakfast that was just yummy. Something I am definitely going to experiment on when I get back to Dubai.
Thank you Magnus and Crystal for your hospitality - I am so glad I spent more time in Vasteras and saw a glimpse of Sweden with real folks.
